PhD Position in Materials/Nanotechnology
A PhD position is available at the Department of Chemistry. The appointment has a duration of 4 years with 25% teaching duties at the Department of Chemistry/NTNU. To undertake the teaching duties it is a requirement that the candidate speaks Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. The position is financed by NTNU and will involve the development of carbon allotrope-based hybrid materials and semiconducting polymers. The project will seek to synthesize hybrid materials targeting applications such as organic solar cells and photocatalysis as well as the evaluation of their performance in the targeted applications.

The theme of the PhD research revolves around organic synthesis. On one end, the candidate is expected to synthesize the appropriate addends to functionalize and solubilize graphene and carbon nanotubes. On the other hand, we are seeking a candidate to work on synthesizing monomers, suitable for polymerization. We are seeking a person with an interest in organic synthesis and the application of the synthesized materials in the end-device. Knowledge of organic devices is an advantage. The position is located at NTNU in Trondheim Norway.

The applicant must have an MSc (or equivalent) in Materials/chemistry/physics and a documented solid experimental background, either in organic synthesis or in device fabrication. Experience with different characterization methods such as NMR, TGA, RAMAN and GPC will be considered an advantage.
The successful candidate should be creative, with a strong ability to work problem oriented. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams.
The regulations for PhD programs at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) for the two last years of the MSc is required. The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skills by an approved test. Approved tests are TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
Terms of employment
The appointment of the PhD fellows will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. Applicants must agree to participate in organized doctoral study programs within the period of the appointment and have to be qualified for the PhD-study.

The position as PhD is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
