Assistant Professor in Religion in Diaspora: Diversity and Inclusion
The School of Religion, Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Religion in Diaspora: Diversity and Inclusion, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2018.
We are seeking a specialist who studies manifestations of religion in the contemporary world as they have moved outside the contexts in which they have historically developed. Candidates’ research should place specific emphasis on racialization and/or ethnicity as factors in the study of
Some examples might include: religion, racialized identities and migration; religious traditions/identities in the African, Asian or Caribbean diasporas; religion, indigeneity and (post)colonialism; experiences of diversity and/or inclusion of diaspora religion(s) within new contexts; religion, cultural/ethnic minorities and human rights; ethnicization and religious identities in diaspora religion; diaspora religion(s) in cultural exchange; new religious movements in diaspora.
Knowledge of a specific religious tradition would be considered an asset, as would the ability to teach methods and theories in Religious Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to share in the teaching of the School of Religion’s first year courses and contribute to the MA program in Religious Studies.
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research
funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. The
successful candidate will be required to make substantive contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University and/or the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
