Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director for Career Education, the Assistant Director provides a full complement of career development services to Boston University students across all schools and colleges as well as alumni requesting specific services. Through the development and delivery of contemporary best practices and methodology in career development, the Assistant Director works directly with students and partners with colleagues in the Center for Career Development as well as colleagues throughout the Boston University campus and other professionals within the greater BU community. Responsibilities will include development and programming of workshops, seminars, courses, and events as well as direct career advising, coaching and counseling in the areas of career exploration, skill building and self-assessment, strategies for pursuit of employment and/or graduate study, and overall career decision-making. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with office staff, chair and serve on cross-functional teams and committees, participate in outreach efforts to departments, centers and groups on campus as well as provide outreach to external constituents (employers, parents, alumni, friends of the University, etc.) as requested and prescribed. The Assistant Director will assume responsibility for industry specific knowledge development and information sharing, as necessary. Responsibilities will also include designated office initiatives and program supervision as well as class-specific initiatives. The Assistant Director will participate in planning, development and implementation of student engagement strategies, marketing and communication as well assessment and outcome data collection.

Required Skills

B.A. or B.S. degree required. Masters degree preferred. Proven and demonstrated writing, communication, analytical, relationship-building, and presentation skills are required. Successful candidates will have a minimum of three to five years of experience in career advising, coaching and/or counseling along with program development and delivery experience.
