Non-Tenure Track Associate Professor in Buddhist Studies

Applications are invited for appointment as non-tenure track Associate Professor in Buddhist Studies in the Centre of Buddhist Studies, to commence on January 1, 2019, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Centre promotes innovative thinking and new horizons for Buddhist studies and research. Information on the Centre can be obtained at http://www.buddhism.hku.hk

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree with at least five years' teaching experience in a recognized tertiary institution. They should be able to direct research activities and supervise postgraduate students, and have an established record of research and publications.  The area of specialization is Tantric Buddhism.  Scholars who can teach Tantric Buddhism with language proficiency in Tibetan, Sanskrit and Pali are preferred.

The appointee will contribute to undergraduate teaching, the Common Core Curriculum, the taught postgraduate programme and the research postgraduate programmes, and will be expected to apply for external grants. He/She will also carry out administrative duties as appropriate to their rank.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
