Professor in Contract Law
Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 11-03-2018
Salary: To be confirmed on appointment

The School

Swansea University is undergoing a period of significant development and expansion. The University doubled the size of its estate with the opening of its new Bay Campus in 2015 and is a UK top 30, research-intensive institution, ranking 26th in REF2014.

The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law is undergoing an equally exciting period of development under its Head, Professor Elwen Evans QC, and is recognised as a leading centre for legal education and applied research and for its innovative approach to responding to the challenges posed by the application of technology in legal services. We have ambitious plans to grow the scale and impact of our work, supported by a planned move in 2020 to a new, purpose-built building housing sector-leading facilities for teaching, research, legal engineering and legal R&D.

The Role

The School now seeks to appoint an exceptional Chair who can demonstrate an international profile in the field of contract law. The successful candidate will ideally evidence a clear interest in the role and impacts of technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and distributed ledgers on legal practice, for instance in terms of smart contracts.

The appointee will be expected to develop their own research activities and be capable of linking with existing research areas and research teams in the School, and to support the work of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Law.  They will also need to sustain and develop their own portfolio of funded projects, as well as maintain fruitful interactions and collaborations with external partners and stakeholders.  The appointee will have a track record of publishing research in respected journals.

The job also requires a contribution to teaching and graduate supervision across the School in addition to college leadership responsibilities.

Interviews will be held in week commencing 9th April.
