The Leverhulme Trust was established by the Will of William Hesketh Lever, the founder of Lever Brothers. Since 1925 we have provided grants and scholarships for research and education; today, we are one of the largest all-subject providers of research funding in the UK, distributing approximately £80 million a year. We award funding across academic disciplines, supporting talented individuals in the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences to realise their personal vision in research and professional training. As well as substantial grants for research, we offer fellowships for researchers at every stage of their career, grants for international collaboration and travel, and support for the fine and performing arts.
We are now seeking a new Assistant Director to partner closely with our Director, Professor Gordon Marshall. We have a strong team-working ethos at the Trust and as such the role of Assistant Director is broad ranging and encompasses the following: organisation of procedures for processing grant applications to the Trust, representation of the Trust in meetings with partners and academic colleagues, and general leadership and representation of the Trust.
The successful candidate will have a track record of management or senior administrative experience. You will have demonstrable experience of working at a senior level in a higher educational or research environment as well as a higher degree (doctorate or equivalent). We are seeking individuals with an understanding and experience of peer review processes and the ability to handle a complex workload and work under pressure without losing accuracy and focus. The Assistant Director will be committed to the Leverhulme Trust’s mission, will have excellent interpersonal skills, and the proven ability to work flexibly and as part of a cohesive team-based organisation.
