Salary: £38,533 to £43,759

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Fellow to join a 1-year project on conducting epidemiological research on important outbreaks of infectious diseases. The successful candidate will collaborate with WHO, Ministries of Health, and other relevant partners, to document epidemiological aspects and control interventions of important outbreaks globally. For this project WHO has undertaken to establish agreements with all relevant parties around gaining access to data and for the preparation of publications.
The successful candidate will lead the analyses him/herself, or will identify colleagues at LSHTM, including Masters students, to conduct the analyses under supervision. He/she will be based within the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at LSHTM working with Prof Jimmy Whitworth but will also work closely with scientists in the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team and at WHO in Geneva, the regional offices, and where practical, with the relevant country offices. The person appointed will be expected to prepare research findings for scientific publication in collaboration with WHO, relevant Ministries of Health and other partners.
Candidates must have an MSc in Public Health or closely related discipline; a demonstrable interest in developing teaching materials and courses; a good understanding of the issues relating to the prevention, response and control of emerging infectious diseases and be willing to travel overseas for short trips. Proficiency in the use of STATA for analysis of survey data and experience of teaching or providing professional training would be an advantage. This post based in London is available immediately and funded until February 2019. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Research Fellow scale Grade 6, £38,533 to £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
