THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN OMAN
This newly founded University wishes to appoint an inspiring, intellectual, and motivational person as the University’s First Vice Chancellor to set the University on a dynamic track of development in the coming years.
The National University of Science and Technology in Sultanate of Oman is a unique multi-campus multi-disciplinary university, formed by merger of the leading Colleges in the Sultanate of Oman in the disciplines of Engineering (Caledonian College of Engineering www.cce.edu.om ) and Medicine and Pharmacy & Health Sciences (Oman Medical College www.omc.edu.om ). The New University is being established to address the nation’s needs by capacity building in higher education and contributing to the National development.
The National University of Science and Technology intends to inculcate research and innovation culture in Oman by establishing advanced centers of excellence in strategic areas identified by the Research Council and the national strategic roadmap and support Government initiatives.
The vision of the National University of Science and Technology is to be a leading and premier institution for academic excellence and innovations in the field of Engineering, Technology, Computing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Health sciences, Fisheries, Petrochemicals and Natural resources.
The mission of the National University is to bring out the best from the youth by providing innovative teaching, learning, and research, application of knowledge and community services which cater to the needs in the region.
The Vice Chancellor is the chief executive officer of the University and reports to the University Executive Board (UEB) for the management of the University and takes guidance from University Board of Trustees (BOT) for academic and strategic matters. The Vice Chancellor provides strategic leadership in all activities of the University in tune with its vision and mission, including provision of programs and accomplishment of strategic priorities set for the University.
As the academic leader of the University, the Vice Chancellor establishes an ambience of academic excellence, and ensures that the University effectively performs its teaching, research and other missions. The Vice Chancellor will take initiatives in the development of collaborative relationships with other universities, health care institutions, professional societies and Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health.
The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, and the experience to represent the University effectively in local, national, and international forums. The Vice Chancellor should have proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as distinguished teaching and research credentials.
Candidates must have a Doctorate (PhD) earned in residence and should have an outstanding academic record with minimum 10 years’ experience, preferably holding or retired from the position of Professor and Leadership in a reputed and recognized university.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE APPLICABLE TO THE POST
The National University will provide an attractive remuneration package. The Vice- Chancellor shall hold office on such terms and conditions as may be agreed and for such term as specified in the contract and renewable upon agreement of both parties.

It is preferable that the application should include candidate's brief Statement of Vision for 5 years in the development of a New University in not more than 700 words.
