Project Title: ERDF Technical Development Support for

COAST (Collaborative Outreach to SMEs in Applied Surface Engineering Technologies) is an ERDF supported joint project between Durham University and CPI (Centre for Process Innovation) to exploit the use of nanoparticles and nanomaterials in a range of commercial applications. We seek to appoint a postdoctoral research scientist, or a person with similar experience, with an interest in the synthesis, development and application of nanomaterials. The project will help companies formulate, format and integrate nanomaterials into a range of applications including surface-coatings, composites, formulations and advanced polymers. The candidate will be working with companies, or academics, who are likely to have expertise in one area but require the addition of nanomaterial handling and processing experience to deliver complete solutions for applications or commercial needs. The aim is that after initial test on demonstrator systems a decision can be made by investors or the company on how best to pursue commercial development.

A track record in nanoparticles or nanomaterials is essential though this experience could come from a wide range of backgrounds from within the chemical or physical sciences. An interest in carbon nanomaterials, chemical processing or formulation and the application of nanomaterials in surface-coatings, composites, formulations or advanced polymers would be an advantage.

There are 3 posts available, which are full time and fixed term until 30 June 2020.
