A postgraduate Research Associate is required to work within the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group (http://www.bris.ac.uk/expsych/research/brain/targ/), part of the Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/integrative-epidemiology/). The role entails developing and testing a caffeine reduction intervention in local Stop Smoking Services. The role holder will be expected to contribute to the development of protocols and ethics applications, and lead on data collection and day-to-day project management.
 
The post is ideally suited to someone with a good undergraduate degree in Psychology, or a closely related discipline. Expertise of running trials, conducting laboratory studies and/or experience of working in smoking cessation research or in Stop Smoking Services would be an advantage.
 
Research within the group focuses on the neurobiological and genetic basis of health-related behaviours (principally tobacco and alcohol use). Key themes include the laboratory study of neurobiological pathways involved in health behaviours, the large-scale longitudinal study of genetic and environmental influences on health behaviours, and the development of novel interventions to promote positive health behavior and improve health outcomes. Opportunities to work on other projects and to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication may be available.
