Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work with a team of staff delivering the Learning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) programme in England. This work is funded by NHS England, and the successful applicant would be based at the Norah Fry Research Centre, part of the School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol. The post is full time (35 hours per week) until 31 May 2018, with a probable extension until 31 May 2019 and a probable further extension to 31 May 2020.

The successful candidate will support all aspects of the management of the data collected from reviews of deaths of people with learning disabilities. This entails writing programs to enable manipulation of the data; developing and maintaining coding frameworks for standardising text data; where possible automating coding to reduce the risk of error; inputting text and numerical data electronically; extracting data ready for analysis, and checking data outputs to identify any potential problems.

You must have specialist knowledge about data management, obtained from studying or previous work experience, and previous experience of the development and management of large data sets. You will have advanced knowledge of using Python, Excel and SPSS software and a good working knowledge of coding qualitative data. You must be able to work quickly and accurately, paying meticulous attention to detail, and be organised and methodical in your approach.  A good honours degree (or equivalent) with a data management component is essential.
