The University Library provides high quality, client centered services, information resources and learning spaces that support world-class research and research enhanced teaching. The Library contributes to the development of graduate capabilities, research capacity, teaching excellence and community engagement in partnership with academics and other University service providers.

The Information Access and Advisory Services (IAAS) Department is responsible for the provision of information and research services, information skills development as well as access to the collection for the Library clients.

The Role

As a Clinical Librarian you will provide high quality research and teaching/learning support, embedded as part of a team-based approach to clinical practice, lifelong learning and patient centered care. Reporting to a Library Discipline Group Leader, the role is part of the Library’s Medicine, Health and Human Sciences team supporting clinical and academic departments and Macquarie University Hospital.

You will conduct in-depth searches using the principles of evidence-based medicine in response to clinical research needs, and work with faculty to develop and implement programs that integrate library resources and information literacy competencies into units, programs and curricula. As part of a clinical multidisciplinary care team you will be required to participate in early morning clinical meetings as needed.

The role is suited to librarians with experience working in the health and medical fields, and familiarity with the methodology, guidelines and standards for conducting systematic review searches.

Some early morning shifts will be required; evening and weekend work may be required.

Selection Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent experience in library or information science or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience utilising information and research tools to support clinical practice, and experience in the application of evidence based practice.
  • Knowledge of scaffolded approaches to research skill development, and experience in developing, delivering and assessing online and face to face training programs
  • Skill and experience in developing and managing client relationships within a clinical, academic or research environment.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service orientation with excellent oral, written, analytical and interpersonal communication skills, both face-to- face and online.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Demonstrated organisational and problem solving skills including attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.

Salary Package: From $80,231 to $88,561 p.a. (HEW Level 6), plus 9.5% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading. Pro rata rates apply for part-time appointments.

Appointment Type: Part time (21 hours per week), fixed term, start immediately, available until 31 December 2018.
