Salary:     £29,799 to £38,833 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The Centre for Aerospace Manufacturing (CAM) requires an experience and skilled mechanical design or tooling Engineer to join our team. The role will involve application of a range of professional engineering skills relating to the development, design, manufacture, commissioning and use of novel aerospace assembly tooling and mechanical systems for automated assembly. In some cases the role may extend to taking and analysing test data. 

Working as part of a small team the post holder will assume a significant role in implementing automated aerospace assembly and tooling projects including being technical lead in some projects. Liaison with academics, researchers, technical colleagues and industrial colleagues will form a part of the role. This post may involve travel to partner sites across the UK and Europe.

Candidates must have an understanding, and preferably direct experience, of one or more of the following areas:

  • Concept and design skills applied to complex assembly fixtures, tooling and cells or similar
  • Mechanical system design
  • Process automation and robotics
  • Aerospace engineering requirements
  • Experience of systems engineering involving the coupling or embedding of large software projects to hardware
  • CAD/CAM expertise in electrical or mechanical domains

Key tasks for the post will include:

  • Development and implementation of new concepts for assembly tooling and automated assembly
  • Testing and validation of technology demonstrators
  • Management of automated assembly systems development and validation
  • Liaison with industrial and academic partners and technology suppliers
  • Reporting to key stakeholders

Candidates must hold a BEng or equivalent in an appropriate field. They should be confident, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Experience of working within the UK and EU, in both industry and research is preferable.

This full time post is offered on a fixed term contract for 2 years. Applications for job share will also be accepted.
