The School of Water, Energy and Environment leads in delivering Cranfield’s Mission for the themes of Water, Energy and Power and Environment and Agrifood. The School is committed to leading in its areas of expertise through investing in world class staff and facilities over the long term.

Cranfield’s expertise in energy and power covers a range of the potential energy solutions, from our ongoing relationship with oil and gas, to our developing reliance on renewable energy from the world around us. The changing energy landscape presents exciting opportunities and the potential for the UK to lead in new technologies and services related to low carbon energy and power generation.

Delivery of our progressively growing portfolio of industry-relevant research involves a dedicated team of academic, research and technical staff working together.  As such we are seeking to attract a highly motivated individual who can provide excellence in a technical capacity.  You will have the ability and desire to work as part of a team to provide technical provision to Energy and Power colleagues to ensure high quality delivery of research projects.

You will be expected to undertake contract work within the areas of thermal processes, material testing, pipe fitting, reviewing technical drawings and plans with design engineers along with offering general technician support.

To apply for the role of Senior Technician you will have 3 A-levels or equivalent vocational qualification (HNC, BTEC etc) in a relevant scientific and/or engineering discipline and previous experience in a relevant technical/scientific role such as an operational laboratory or engineering support facility, or relevant in-depth technical know-how gained over a number of years.

To succeed as a Senior Technical Officer, you will ideally be qualified to HND or degree level in a scientific and/or engineering discipline.  You will have significant experience in a practical capacity and have prior experience of working within a research environment.

Cranfield University is committed to promoting a harmonious working and learning environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity, recognising that the contribution of all its people will be most effective in conditions which are inclusive.

We are an institutional member of HEaTED (Higher Education and Technical Education and Development).  This membership enables our technical and specialist staff to access a range of specialist workshops and events as well as their own virtual learning environment online.

As part of our commitment to support and develop Technical staff across the University, we have now also become a founding signatory of the Science Council's Technician Commitment.  This is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research.
