The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health is a world class research institute with its scientific outputs and esteem placing it in the top six neuroscience research centres in the world.
One in five peopleare affected by a brain disorder each year. The Florey has 600 dedicated staff and studentsbased in Melbourne who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works in order to provideimproved medical treatments. Key areas of research include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic spinal cord injury.
The Florey extensively collaborates and works closely with the major universities, hospitals, governments and research facilities both nationally and internationally. Key strategic relationships locally include The University of Melbourne, Austin Health and Melbourne Health.
Interest is invited from the highest calibre senior research leaderswith the demonstrated capability to dynamically lead the Florey from its current strong position into its next era of scientific excellence, international pre-eminence and influence on the world stage. The key aspects of the role will include:
- To develop and drive the Institute’s strategic direction to ensure the Florey becomes the world leader in neuroscience research;
- Lead the wider neuroscience research community in Melbourne through the engagement and co-operation of research partners, inclusive of The University of Melbourne;
- Commercial acumen to ensure a highly productive and financially sustainable future; and
- Ambassadorial and advocacy influence.
The Director will also hold an appointment with The University of Melbourne as the Head of the Florey Department of Neuroscience and Mental Health in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science.
