Since our doors opened in 1872, we have welcomed qualified men and women, without regard to background or belief. The breadth and depth of our curriculum and scholarship as well as our innovative spirit are distinctive in American legal education.

Boston University School of Law is seeking exceptionally qualified and experienced candidates for full-time Lecturer positions in our Legal English Certificate Program (LECP). The LECP is both a standalone certificate program as well as the first year of the Two-Year LLM program, with a fixed curriculum, offered during the regular academic year. The purpose of the LECP is to improve students’ legal English and on-board them for LLM studies, either at Boston University or elsewhere. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to teach Legal English I and II, offered as a six-credit course in the fall and spring, respectively. Legal English I and II are meant to improve students’ legal English skills across listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and typically is divided into two sections. In addition, this position may assist in coordinating curriculum and assessment with the other ESL instructors. This position will also be responsible for teaching summer programming related to legal English on an as-needed basis.

These Lecturer positions are non-tenure track appointments to a one or two year initial 12- month term contract beginning July 1, 2018, with the possibility of successive appointments. Candidates must have a degree from an accredited law school and experience with ESL/TESOL instruction. Prior law school teaching experience, or prior experience teaching ESL to graduate law students, is strongly preferred.

Employment is expected to be on the basis of a full-time, one year contract with employment to begin in July 2018.
