Director - Tropical Medicine and Global Health
Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
As the first institution in the world dedicated to tropical diseases, LSTM has been leading the field in innovative translational research and teaching excellence since its founding in 1898.
Born out of industry, LSTM attracts talented researchers and students from around the world. With a research portfolio in excess of £210 million, LSTM has created and sustained a reputation for scientific excellence and continues to offer unrivalled learning opportunities to postgraduate students from over 65 countries. Having received Degree Awarding Powers in 2017, and with its new and ambitious Strategic Plan 2017 – 2023 in place, LSTM is embarking on its next phase of unparalleled global growth, working towards its 125th anniversary in 2023.
To lead us through this next phase of growth and ambition, we are now seeking to appoint our next Director, in succession of Professor Janet Hemingway FRS. The Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for its research, academic, financial and professional services delivery. The Board is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to build on the foundation of unparalleled recent success, ensuring LSTM remains the ‘partner to turn to’ for those with an interest in Tropical Medicine and Global Health.
A true leader of people, you must be able to evidence a demonstrable track record of achievement in a senior management capacity within the Higher Education/Global Health/Research areas. It is likely the successful candidate will possess an impressive, internationally recognised academic record in health or a closely related sector. Experience of working in resource-poor environments will be an important consideration.
