Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Japanese Studies), to commence on September 1, 2018, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should possess a relevant Master’s degree with proven expertise in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. They should have at least five years’ experience in teaching courses at tertiary level, and be familiar with recent trends in language teaching and curriculum development. Information Communications Technology skills in language teaching as well as fluency in English are required. 

The appointee is expected to contribute to the existing curriculum by teaching and designing language courses and content courses (e.g. popular culture in Japan, Japanese pedagogy).  This is an academic-related post with teaching and administration as the main duties although research initiative is also valued.  Information about the Japanese Language Programme can be obtained at  Enquiries about the post should be sent to the School at

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Please note that the University is not able to offer a relocation assistance package (including temporary University housing accommodation and a passage and baggage allowance) to the successful candidate recruited from overseas.
