The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is currently seeking to make the appointment of:

Chief Examiner for MYP Design

Design, and the resultant development of new technologies, has given rise to profound changes in society, transforming how we access and process information, adapt our environment, communicate with others, solve problems, work and live. MYP design challenges students to apply practical and creative-thinking skills to solve design problems; encourages students to explore the role of design in historical and contemporary contexts; and raises students’ awareness of their responsibilities when making design decisions and taking action.

A Chief examiner is principally responsible for setting and maintaining the academic standard for their subjects. They are closely involved in developing partially completed unit plans, examiner training, marking/moderating candidates’ work, agreeing and setting standards, and determining the final grades of candidates in both the May and November sessions.

As such the position of Chief examiner entails a commitment to attend meetings for activities such as assessment production editing, examiner standardization and grade awarding.  These meetings may be face-to-face or held online.  Being available to be involved in the authoring process is a requirement of this role.

A Chief examiner may also be invited to participate in curriculum and assessment development alongside teachers, external consultants, and IB academic staff.  However, the IB currently operates a seven year cycle of curriculum review for individual subjects and courses, therefore the exact nature of this involvement will vary according to timing.

All essential and desirable skills, qualifications and experience are listed in the recruitment policy available on the IB senior recruitment pages.

The position is normally held for a period of five years, with an annual review.

The closing date for applications is Monday 26th February.

Successful applicants will be notified by the start of April 2018.

Appointments will take effect from 1st September 2018.
