Vice President (Knowledge Transfer and Business)

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.5 billion.
The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Vice President (Knowledge Transfer and Business).  This appointment will be made on either a substantive basis or a concurrent basis for a fixed term.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the appointee will be a member of the senior management team overseeing the planning and implementation of the University’s strategic agenda on knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship and related business management and community partnerships to create industry and social impact for the University’s knowledge and technologies in Hong Kong and in the region.

Job Functions

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    lead the planning and implementation of knowledge transfer initiatives which include but not limited to licensing, contract research, consultancy, start-up/spin-off companies to extend industry and social impact;

(b)    strategise and oversee the implementation of entrepreneurship programs which support staff, students and alumni in their start-up endeavours; 

(c)    foster an ambience for knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship and develop strategic partnership and collaborations with leading industry, domain and community leaders for impactful knowledge transfer and social innovation endeavours; 

(d)    oversee the business development and governance of the subsidiaries of the University and assure University’s equity interests in companies are protected;

(e)    lead and oversee the performance of the assigned portfolios including Institute for Entrepreneurship, Legal and Company Secretary, Risk Management and Compliance;

(f)    support the Executive Vice President or his/her delegate in matters relating to the implementation of the University’s strategic plans and institutional affairs; and 

(g)    perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Vice President or his/her delegate.


Applicants should:

(a)    have a postgraduate degree or terminal professional qualifications and sound professional credentials;

(b)    have demonstrated capability and track records in formulating strategies and execution of technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship development, business management and development preferably in a regional context and with solid experience acquired in a senior management capacity of large and complex organizations;

(c)    have excellent local and regional networks with the industry, business and professional sectors;

(d)    be a visionary and inspiring leader with an excellent drive for performance;

(e)    have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with different stakeholders both internally and externally; and  

(f)    have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service 
Terms of appointment and remuneration package are negotiable and highly competitive.
