A three-year position as a project manager is available at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering, NTNU. The project management will be conducted as a part of the work in the HydroFlex-project which is a Research and Innovation action in Horizon2020. The research will be conducted in collaboration with HydroFlex-partners and the Norwegian Centre for Hydropower Technology (HydroCen). HydroFlex has 16 partners spread over 5 countries in Europe, i.e. Sweden, Germany, UK, Macedonia and Norway.

The main objective of the HydroFlex project is to develop scientific and technological breakthroughs to enable hydropower to operate with very high flexibility in order to utilize the power and storage capability. The project will create the environmental and technical basis for successful future industrial developments by performing well-focused research and innovation activities on the key bottlenecks of hydropower units that restricts their operating range and thus limiting their flexibility.

The project manager’s main responsibilities are the project planning, execution and coordination of the cross-disciplinary work between HydroFlex’s 7 work packages. In addition, he/she will development and follow up on a communication, dissemination and exploitation plan, follow up on the consortium agreement and financing, and make sure that the periodic reporting to the Commission is executed.  The project manager will also be responsible for the administrative work around HydroFlex’s kick-off, workshops, management and consortium meetings. HydroFlex communication platform and website will also be a part of the work. If there is time available, the project manager can take part of the research of his/hers own choice.


  • Applicants must hold a Master degree in engineering science or physics.
  • The candidate should also be familiar with the renewable energy industry and preferably have a network within Scandinavia’s hydropower industry. 
  • Excellent English skills, spoken and written, are required. 
  • In addition, knowledge of a Scandinavian language is preferred. 
  • The position requires a high level of personal responsibility and initiative. 
  • The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience within research and/or industrial development. A combination of these two will be preferable.

Excellent English skills, spoken and written, are required. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skills by an approved test. Approved tests are TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).


The position will be remunerated in code 1108 normally between NOK 412 600 - 573 700/ code 1109 normally between NOK 486 100 – 643 900. There will be a 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross wage. The appointment of the researcher will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

The researcher’s office will be located in the Waterpower laboratory at NTNU Trondheim. Traveling between the partners will most likely be required during the project period.
