National Centre for Universities and Business – Chief Executive

The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) is an independent and not-for-profit membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports university-business collaboration across the UK. Funded by a unique mix of university, business and public bodies – including the higher education research funding councils, the NCUB’s council consists of eminent individuals drawn from senior business leaders and Vice-Chancellors from its member organisations.

The purpose of NCUB is to help the UK grow prosperity, productivity and global competitiveness, through the closer collaboration and integration of businesses and universities, within what is a currently challenging policy and funding environment and with new opportunities arising from the Government’s Industrial Strategy.

The Board is looking for a new Chief Executive to succeed Dr David Docherty who is stepping down in Spring 2018. Building on firm foundations, and working with the Board, the new Chief Executive will have the passion, commitment and background to assure the delivery of NCUB’s objective to expand the research and innovation base of the UK and help develop the higher level talent and skills that Business needs.

It is a complex role with full responsibility for NCUB’s operations as well as calling for energetic leadership and promotion of NCUB’s mission. The successful candidate will have the credibility and interpersonal skills to interact with and develop relationships at the highest level in business and academia, whilst also leading, managing and developing a highly motivated team of professionals. She/he will advise the Board on future priorities and work with Government, public funders, policy-makers, business and universities to ensure that the NCUB’s strategy and planning work is addressing pressing issues for the economy, society and the environment through supporting policy development.

Today, and for the immediate future, the mission of NCUB could not be more needed or more relevant. This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual to make a real impact by creatively and consistently driving NCUB’s agenda. It is a highly influential role, helping bring together businesses and universities at the highest level, in such a way as to make a positive and tangible difference to developing UK talent and addressing Society’s problems.

Location: London. Salary: Competitive.
