Immersive Technologies Developer (KTP Associate)

The UWS School of Media, Culture and Society is a large multidisciplinary school where the social sciences and creative and cultural industries meet. Located in the school is the UWS Creative Media Academy, a centre of excellence in media, and creative practice, knowledge creation and exchange.
We are seeking to recruit an Immersive Technologies Developer to work on an exciting new Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) agreement we have been awarded with ISO Organisation Ltd (ISO). The KTP scheme is one of Innovate UK’s flagship innovation support mechanisms for UK business. The KTP Associate role is a high profile position and is integral to the delivery of each project. It is essential that the successful candidate understands how KTP works with business and the University, and the vital role they will play if they successfully secure a KTP Associate position.
ISO is an award winning digital media and software studio specialising in the design, direction and building of large-scale interactive and immersive media projects. Clients include Museums, Galleries and Brand Experience Centres across the UK and internationally. ISO also creates award-winning motion graphics and animated content for television and commercial clients and ambitious online digital projects that are experienced across web, social and mobile. ISO delivered the graphics and visual effects for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony to an audience of 1.5 billion, were the original designers of the interface for the BBC iPlayer and are winners of multiple Royal Television Society Awards and the SXSW interactive award for Art (for ISO projects see http://isodesign.co.uk/projects).
This KTP project seeks to embed advanced visualisation knowledge and expertise within ISO Design (both augmented reality and virtual reality) in support of emerging global business opportunities and represents an exceptional opportunity to accelerate your career in the Creative / Digital media sector. You will be an integral member of ISO’s research and development team, based at ISO’s state of the art digital design studio in the city centre of Glasgow and report directly to Damien Smith, company founder and design partner.
In addition, you will be fully supported by a cross-school team of academics from UWS and line managed by Prof Nick Higgins, Director of the Creative Media Academy at UWS and lead academic on UWS Immersive, a university wide project that explores how VR & AR transforms the way UWS teach, conduct research and collaborate with external agencies (https://research-portal.uws.ac.uk/en/persons/nick-higgins). You will also have support from academics in the School of Engineering and Computing (Dr Cullen and Dr Gilardi) who conduct research in immersive audio and VR authoring respectively and access to the new VR labs on the Paisley and Hamilton campuses that are part of the UWS Immersive project.
You will support the team in the development of a number of practical applications of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality.
Operating within ISO Design’s Research and Development unit, the successful candidate will help to identify, plan and investigate key opportunities for ISO Design and will work across a wide range of creative projects, from fast moving assignments working alone to working as part of a specialist team to deliver longer term projects working across the ISO studio, external partners and clients.
You must possess a Masters Degree (MEng, MA or MProf) or minimum 2:1 in an undergraduate degree from a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Digital Entertainment, Games Development and Programming, and have relevant industry experience, including experience of working with an agile methodology - where prototypes can be quickly created, reviewed and refined. Experience in computer science or the application of code to create media and interactive work is essential. You must possess good organisational skills, good communication and interpersonal skills (including report writing), strong analytical and numerical skills and be able to collaborate with colleagues.
You must be able to provide evidence of experience via a link to a digital portfolio / or by providing access to a site that collects a representative selection of work in your application
In addition to a competitive salary and core KTP development training, you will have a dedicated budget of £4,000 for further training and career development as well as a pathway to obtain Chartered Management Institute (CMI) level 5 qualification in Management. Finally, the nature of ISO’s business means there will likely be opportunities for International travel and you will be exposed to ISO’s high profile global client-base.
