University of Waterloo
Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education

The University of Waterloo is Canada’s innovation university and stands as a global model of 21st-century higher education. With more than 36,000 students, the University has an unmatched entrepreneurial culture, combined with an intensive research focus and deep connections to industry, creating one of the top innovation hubs in the world. Waterloo has earned a reputation for producing leaders of tomorrow through excellent and relevant undergraduate and graduate education, delivered through six Faculties: Applied Health Sciences, Arts, Engineering, Environment, Mathematics, and Science.

The University’s co-operative and experiential education program, offering opportunities for meaningful, paid work experience to students, is the largest, best-established, and most sophisticated in the world, with close to 20,000 work terms annually with over 6,000 employers, and student work term earnings in excess of $250 million. In addition to their academic studies, Waterloo co-op graduates benefit from subject-matter expertise and employability skills developed on work terms, positioning them well to enter the work force.

The Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education, is accountable for ensuring the growth of Waterloo’s global leadership in co-operative education; for ensuring an integrated and coherent strategy for work-integrated education at Waterloo; for delivery of career support and programming to all Waterloo students and alumni; and for building strong relationships with university stakeholders and external partners (including government agencies), to ensure ongoing support for work-integrated education at the University of Waterloo.

The successful candidate will have experience as a senior administrator, with a strong track record of leadership and innovation earned in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.  They will have a proven ability to build strong relationships with partners, both internal and external, and excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Some knowledge of the post-secondary environment and of the employment market is desirable, and a deep commitment to student success is essential.

The University of Waterloo respects, appreciates and encourages diversity and is committed to accessibility for persons with disabilities. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority in the recruitment process.

In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.

Consideration of candidates will begin in March 2018, with the successful candidate to take office in the spring, or as soon as possible thereafter.  Applications and expressions of interest should be submitted, in confidence, to waterloocoop@odgersberndtson.com.
