The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations seeks applications for a preceptor in modern Turkish. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2018. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching all levels of modern Turkish, from the elementary to the advanced, working with colleagues in organizing cultural events, evaluating students, and developing course curricula.
The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. Teaching duties include a minimum of five [semester] courses per year of instruction in Turkish language.
The successful applicant should have experience in teaching Turkish at all levels, and demonstrate broad cultural literacy in the realm of modern Turkish studies. S/he should have native or near-native proficiency in Turkish and be familiar with current methodologies of second language acquisition.
Preference will be given to candidates with a solid academic background and with interest and knowledge of contemporary Turkish humanities and/or social sciences. A strong doctoral record is preferred.
