Job Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to provide effective Maths, English and ICT support to apprentices. This will involve teaching and managing these three subject areas. 

Job Background 

The job will sit within the English Language and Academic Skills Service as part of the Learning and Teaching Deanery. The role will work across the University and Professional Qualifications to provide the basic effective skills to all learners. The role would suit a teacher looking for further programme management experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • To understand the learning needs of the apprentice population and be able to deliver challenging and exciting English, Maths and ICT support
  • To teach, support and assess learners in English, Maths and ICT through webinars, emails and tutorials
  • To ensure the English and Math’s strategy is consistently applied across the organisation in order to deliver a fully aligned programme.
  • To support apprenticeship staff (e.g. skills coaches and assessors) in the development of English and Maths across the apprenticeship programmes.
  • To critically evaluate the development of apprentice’s skills in English, Maths and ICT and provide feedback on performance as required.
  • To liaise with outside agencies, including examination boards and employers, as required to ensure the needs of the apprentices are met.
  • To promote and develop high quality teaching and learning, maintaining and developing a variety of learning materials for both online and face-to-face delivery.
  • To maintain accurate records of apprentices’ learning activities including apprentices’ progress, assessment schedules, schemes of work, course reviews and induction programmes.
  • To support the Head in forecasting the number of support sessions for learners in English, Maths and ICT
  • To carry out duties at all times in accordance with the University’s equal opportunities, health and safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Effectively undertake any other duties as required.
