STANDARD FOUNDATION, INTENSIVE AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMS
Macquarie University International College (MUIC) provides students an alternate pathway to a number of the University's mainstream undergraduate degree offerings.
The college offers 6 programs. Students can complete an Intensive Program or a Standard Foundation Program, which allows them to articulate into the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Arts, Business & Commerce and Engineering & Science streams. Alternately students can complete one of four Diploma programs, Accounting, Commerce and Business Administration, Engineering, IT or Media and Communication. Successful completion of a Diploma program enables students to enter the second year of selected undergraduate degree programs.
The College will have a number of upcoming employment opportunities in 2018 for casual teaching staff.
Expressions of interest are invited from appropriately qualified and professionally experienced people to undertake teaching during day and/or evening sessions. MUIC is accepting expressions of interest for teaching on all units in all Terms. You may consult the Handbook for general information on offerings, however, these are subject to change and units may not be offered in all teaching terms.
Appointed staff will also be expected to prepare and deliver lessons, undertake student consultation, closely monitor student progress and attendance, prepare and mark assessments, supervise in class assessments and examinations, manage and submit results, participate in staff and moderation meetings and liaise with administrative and other teaching staff.
THE DELIVERY MODEL
MUIC offers an intensive delivery model contained within a 7 week Term which has 6 teaching weeks and 7 teaching Terms in the calendar year. Students undertake two units in a Term. Casual teaching staff are expected to commit to the full 7 week Term. Term 1 commences early February 2018.

In the Foundation and Intensive programs opportunities will be available for teaching in the following subject areas: Academic English and Academic Communications, Accounting, Communications and Cultural Studies, Computing/ICT, Economics, Engineering, Finance, History, Management, Marketing, Mathematics, Media, Physics, Politics, Research Skills, Science and Statistics.
MUIC Diploma units are equivalents of first year undergraduate units offered by Departments of Accounting and Corporate Governance, Economics, Engineering, Computing, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies, Modern History, Linguistics, Politics and International Relations. Staff with previous teaching experience in ACCG /MAS /ACST /BBA /ECON /ENGG /ICOM /ISYS/ MAS/MATH/PHYS/POL/STAT units (particularly at 100 Level) are encouraged to apply.
Standard Foundation and Intensive Program applicants must possess a recognised degree relevant to the course plus either a formal qualification in the delivery of education or at least 2 years relevant teaching experience, including breadth of experience in delivering to students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Diploma program applicants must possess a combination of relevant qualifications (minimum degree level) and teaching experience.
Academic English teaching applicants must have an appropriate English language teaching qualification and at least 2 years ESL/EFL teaching experience.
All applicants must possess a current right to work in Australia. As these positions are casual, we are unable to offer sponsorship.
Ideally all applicants will possess the following:
- Sound understanding of relevant unit subject content as demonstrated by academic achievement and/or professional competency
- Previous experience teaching within relevant discipline in an Australian context
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
- Demonstrated experience delivering programs to students from a non-English speaking background in an Australian institution.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students and other teaching staff
- Experience in the use of Moodle and a range of learning technologies to support the effective translation of teaching to student learning
- Experience in writing and setting assessment tasks and managing results inline with maintaining quality standards.
