Description of Work Unit

The mission of the School of Education is to use communication, leadership, and facilitation skills effectively in teaching, research, and engagement in order to empower and support prospective and practicing educators to become personally and professionally competent, effective, and caring community members. The School of Education faculty expertise spans diverse learning contexts and populations. Innovative instruction, equitable access, technology education, distance education, service learning, workforce development initiatives, workplace learning strategies, professional development, school partnerships, and rigorous research methodologies characterize the program.

Position Summary

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University invites applications for the 12-month position of assistant/associate professor (non-tenure track) who will also serve as co-director of the Center for Educator Preparation. Start date will be July 2, 2018. The successful candidate will play a critical role in facilitating the leadership and administrative structures and practices of the Center for Educator Preparation using a Professional Development School Model. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who will join a collaborative faculty in continuing to build highly successful, ambitious P-12 licensure programs at both undergraduate and post-baccalaureate/graduate levels. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching and administration in the P-12 public school and/or higher education environment, experience and/or knowledge in working with clinical practice models in educator preparation, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in education

  • Facilitate a team-based administrative structure for the educator preparation programs as well as collaboration with leadership in the School of Education
  • Assist in managing budget, personnel, scheduling, curriculum development, and support for students
  • Provide leadership in continued growth and expansion of educator preparation programs.
  • Contribute as a faculty instructor in the School’s undergraduate and graduate educator preparation programs and masters/doctoral level programs.
  • Contribute to the research initiatives of Center for Educator Preparation and the School of Education.
  • Collaborate with faculty members and administrators across the CSU campus who contribute instruction and advising to the educator preparation programs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with relevant state and national organizations and institutions on educator preparation issues.
  • Strengthen existing partnerships and develop new partnerships with local schools and state organizations related to education and educator preparation.
  • Engage in service and outreach activities, especially in local school districts.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in education or a closely related field
  • 5+ years leadership/administration experience in P-12 public school and/or higher education settings
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with teacher and principal candidates, university instructors, and/or educator preparation programs
  • A minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusive excellence in education

  • Demonstrated record of research/scholarship
  • Knowledge and/or experience in curricular and instructional development
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive climate and culture with all stakeholders

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Teaching and Advising Duty/Responsibility

  • Assist in scheduling all courses within the Center for Educator Preparation.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses for the Center for Educator Preparation.
  • Advise masters and doctoral students in the School of Education.
  • Conduct transcript reviews of master’s degree candidates.
  • Supervise and evaluate graduate teaching assistants.
  • Assist in the running of post baccalaureate/masters degree teacher licensure program(s) as appropriate.
  • Serve as student disciplinary officer.

  • Work closely with the Director of the School of Education, the Co-Director of the CEP and other key faculty to support a team-based administrative structure.
  • Provide instructional leadership and administrative expertise to the Center for Educator Preparation programs.
  • Provide coordination and supervision of field based experiences through a Professional Development School model.
  • Provide service to the School of Education, university, community, state, and the nation to enhance the field of teacher education and principal preparation.
  • Assist the Center for Educator Preparation in preparing for various accreditation reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with content area faculty in the delivery of education licensure programs and advising services.
  • Serve as a Center for Educator Preparation/School of Education liaison to the local school districts.
  • Communicate and collaborate with relevant state and national organizations and institutions on educator preparation issues.
