The Faculty of Education is ranked number 4 among the top Education faculties worldwide by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for Education 2018. Applications are invited for the following positions in the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2018, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, a professional teaching qualification in the relevant discipline, and substantial experience in teaching at the tertiary level. Knowledge of the local context would be an advantage. Appointees will be required to teach courses offered by the Faculty at various levels from undergraduate to doctorate, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research and knowledge exchange, undertake school practicum supervision and administrative responsibilities. Appointees may be considered for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should possess strong academic credentials, outstanding academic leadership capabilities, extensive experience in conducting externally funded and rigorous field-based research, and a distinguished record of scholarship. Exceptionally outstanding candidates may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.
Applicants should have strong teaching and research experience in any relevant specialism of applied linguistics, educational linguistics, educational discourse studies, and/or English language teacher education. The appointee will be expected to teach courses related to second language learning, language across the curriculum, genre-based pedagogies, new media and literacies, pedagogical grammar, and discourse analysis, among others. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable for professoriate appointments and senior lecturer appointment.
