Director of Human Resources

Competitive remuneration package

The University of East London (UEL) is an open, diverse and inclusive university that is transforming people’s lives by developing their skills and unlocking their potential. We pride ourselves on the real-world relevance of our courses and research and the quality of our partnerships and industry links. We produce capable graduates, entrepreneurs and researchers, empowering them to make a profound social, cultural and economic impact on the communities of east London and beyond.

The University has more than 14,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 135 different countries studying on UEL-awarded programmes. It employs more than 1,400 staff and has a turnover of £140 million.
UEL is now seeking an exceptional individual to take on the role of Director of Human Resources, leading HR services and playing a central role in enabling this pioneering institution to position itself to tackle the challenges and embrace the opportunities of a continually evolving higher education sector.

Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor’s Group (VCG), you will provide leadership to a large team within an institution that is undergoing real academic change. You will be able to develop a powerful employee proposition and build a strong culture within human resources to bring about a step-change in performance.

We are seeking candidates who can develop and take forward an ambitious people strategy, support and contribute to the overall performance of the University and play a central role as a member of the University’s leadership team. You will bring experience of developing a responsive HR service that meets the needs of managers and employees and you will be an experienced change manager, able to adapt services and structures to meet evolving requirements. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates from other sectors who demonstrate empathy for universities and, importantly, an innate curiosity and desire to build upon UEL’s academic successes.
