We are seeking an Early Career Development Fellow at Lecturer level for the discipline of Exercise and Sport Science. The successful applicant will be on track to develop an outstanding teaching and research career in this discipline. Applications are particularly sought from candidates working in the sub-disciplines of either Sport/ Exercise Psychology or Biomechanics of Sport and Exercise; however, exceptional applicants from across the broad field of Exercise and Sport Science are invited to apply.
This is a teaching and research role and you will have responsibility for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level; course coordination and administration; student assessment; and contributing to curriculum development. You will have the opportunity to develop an independent research program as well as contributing to existing research projects within the faculty and the wider university. You will also be expected to be involved with higher degree research student supervision.
The University of Sydney has developed Early Career Development Fellowships with the objective of creating a pathway to academic careers for casual staff. The position will be appointed for an initial fixed term period of five years and, on successful completion of this confirmation period, ECDFs will be offered Continuing Employment in a standard teaching and research role.

- previous teaching experience and demonstrated potential to contribute to curriculum development and design, unit coordination, and assessment in Exercise and Sport Science
- demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and to develop independent research relevant to the faculty’s priority areas
- applicants with expertise in Sport Psychology should have membership and/or registration with the Australian Psychological Society (or international equivalent)
Under the Fellowship rules you also must be able to provide verification that you satisfy the following criteria:
- have employment experience totalling at least 12 months (including some casual employment) in one or more Australian universities over the preceding five years
- have been awarded or have submitted a PhD qualification
- do not hold, or have previously held, any continuing academic appointment in a university.
