Subject/subject description

Business administration with a specialisation in accounting. Accounting is the part of the Business Administration that focuses on studies of financial accounting, management accounting or auditing.

Main responsibilities

The position includes engaging in own research at least 51% of the time. In addition, teaching, supervision and participation in the planning and development of education in the subject discipline includes accounting for a maximum of 49% of working hours. Teaching is expected to take place in English as well as in Swedish. It is also expected that the applicant can teach all the subject areas and at all levels, i.e. at both the undergraduate and the advanced level.

The incumbent is expected to engage in the school's research as well as to initiate, organize and lead research projects. In addition, the associate senior lecturer activities shall be directed towards international scientific publications and research applications.

Qualification requirements

Eligible applicants for the position should hold a PhD in Business Administration, with a specialisation in accounting, or have a Swedish or foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to such a doctorate. Priority will be given in the first instance, to applicants who received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no more than five years before the closing date for applications. 

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order to successfully meet the requirements of the position.

Teaching proficiency should be demonstrated through teaching experience at the undergraduate or advanced levels. Teaching expertise should be well-documented and in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

Assessment criteria

Special emphasis will be placed on research skills demonstrated through own research in the subject discipline accounting. As regards scientific skill and documenting the research activity, international publications in the subject discipline in the past five years are particularly meritorious.

Strong emphasis will be placed on teaching proficiency demonstrated through teaching experience at the undergraduate and advanced levels level and supervision, course responsibility and pedagogical development in the subject discipline accounting.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a detailed research plan covering the employment period.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

Emphasis will be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.
It is a merit to have completed at least 7.5 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

Additional information

An applicant who does not have at least 7.5 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.

Promotion

Employment as an associate senior lecturer is limited to four years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) (HF). The purpose of the position is to enable the associate senior lecturer to develop independence as a researcher and acquire the necessary qualifications for appointment to another more senior teaching position.

An associate senior lecturer at Stockholm University is employed for a period of four years; the employment can be extended to a maximum of six years, if there are special reasons like sick leave or parental leave. The associate senior lecturer can apply for, and ought to be promoted to, senior lecturer for an indefinite term of employment, if she or he meets the demands for promotion in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, the Rules of Employment for the Recruitment and Promotion of Teachers at Stockholm University (AOSU), and the criteria decided by the Board of Human Sciences (ref.no. SU FV-2.3.1.2-0026-17).

An application for promotion to senior lecturer must be submitted to the Faculty no later than nine months before the employment as associate senior lecturer ends.
