Keele University
Appointment of Chief Financial Officer

Keele University is renowned for its exciting approach to higher education, innovative research, beautiful campus, strong community spirit and excellent student experience. Our distinctive educational programmes and learning environment make our students amongst the most satisfied in the country, as reflected in our NSS survey results and recent Gold award in the TEF, and our research helps shape the world, with 97 per cent classified as world-leading or of international importance in the most recent REF. With a turnover in excess of £155 million, over 10,000 students and a total staff of approximately 2,200, the University has a diverse academic profile led by staff working at the forefront of their subjects.

We are now looking to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join Keele and play a pivotal role in our future development. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and an integral member of the University Executive Committee, the CFO will be expected to contribute at a strategic level, not only providing financial control but supporting decision-making across the University and ensuring that resources are allocated in alignment with our strategic priorities. The CFO will be responsible for leading the University’s Finance function, leading a team of around 50 staff.

Candidates for the role will need to possess a strong track record of leadership in finance, with proven success in implementing innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to the management of finances in large organisations, and the ability to motivate and develop staff to deliver the highest levels of performance. A deep understanding of the strategic issues facing higher education will be beneficial, and a genuine commitment to providing agile and proactive service delivery, as well as the ability to foster these qualities in staff, will also be essential.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver, alongside public advertisement of the role. Perrett Laver will support the Selection Panel in the discharge of its duties, both to assist the assessment of candidates against the requirements of the role and to identify the widest possible field of candidates.

In order to apply, please submit a comprehensive curriculum vitae, with a covering letter setting out how you meet the requirements for the role. Please include the names and addresses of three referees. All information will be treated as strictly confidential. The deadline for applications for this post is Monday the 5th of February 2018 at 12.00 Noon GMT and applications should be uploaded at quoting reference 3343

Longlisted candidates will be invited for interview with Perrett Laver in mid-February to early-March 2018, following which the Selection Panel will agree a shortlist in mid-March. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to informal gathering visits and informal conversations on the 21st and 22nd of March. Selected candidates will then be invited for formal interviews with the Selection Panel on the 26th March 2018.
