Professor and Executive Director of CIFAL Newcastle

The University of Newcastle is seeking a Professor and Executive Director of CIFAL, an International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders, for the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.The CIFAL Global Network is part of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and CIFAL centres are located across Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean. CIFAL Newcastle serves as a hub for the Asia Pacific region, leveraging the University of Newcastle’s disciplinary strengths in areas such as disaster preparedness and reconstruction, sustainable development and urban resilience.
The role of the Executive Director of CIFAL is to shape bodies of knowledge of great societal value in the field of disaster risk recovery, vulnerability and risk mitigation leading into the broad United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal “to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” He/She will implement strategies and lead a multi-stakeholder centre with a regional, national and international focus through consultation with government, private enterprise, society and UN organisations.The Executive Director of CIFAL will be an internationally renowned research leader with distinguished scholarly achievements.
The role is an excellent senior leadership opportunity and will be a full-time, ongoing, Professorial appointment.
