University of Aberdeen
Appointment of Principal
A global University, rooted in Scotland
Founded in 1495, Aberdeen is the fifth oldest University in the UK and combines its ancient heritage with a forward-focused, global outlook. A broad-based, research-intensive university, already in the world’s Top 200, it is committed to strengthening its international reach to become a significant global organisation, enriching people’s lives through research, learning and sharing of knowledge. Working collaboratively with business, research institutions and other Universities is a central part of achieving its objectives.
Following Professor Sir Ian Diamond’s retirement announcement, we have started a global search for our next Principal. We are seeking an outstanding leader who will continue to drive forward an ambitious agenda to ensure the University further improves its strong reputation as an internationally significant centre of research and learning. We require an individual of exceptional ability, confidence, energy and presence to be an inspiring leader and ambassador for the University.
The successful candidate will have a global perspective, significant academic standing, student-centred ambitions and values, a commitment to research and learning and experience of leading complex organisations. Candidates will demonstrate exceptional capabilities in leading a team and motivating others to achieve success, with a clear commitment to harnessing the potential of philanthropy and to upholding a culture of diversity, inclusion, transparency, and fairness.
