Department Profile:

Qatar University's library has undergone several important developmental changes since its establishment in 1973. However, the most notable change took place in 1985, when the university made the move to its permanent campus. In 1992, a new library building was constructed on the men's campus. The library serves QU students, faculty, staff, and researchers, as well as patrons from the general public. Our goal is to support your curriculum needs, and to contribute to the quality of your overall learning experience here at QU .      

Duties & Responsibilities            

  • Responsible for circulation of materials to patrons both check-in, check-out, hold, renew, etc.  
  • Assists patrons in the use of the Library and the functions of Access Service areas; communicate circulation policies and procedures to patrons; assist users in using the online catalog and in locating specific titles.
  • Responsible for patron registration, handling money (fine and fee) transactions, overdue notices, and opening and closing procedures. 
  • Responsible for Interlibrary Loan requests from borrowers, using the online Library system, to ensure that material is supplied promptly.
  • Assists with compilation of a variety of statistics concerning library usage and book circulation and maintain Library records. 
  • Handles routine complaints and answers a variety of questions at the circulation desk. 
  • Assist in the selection and merchandising of materials that reflect the interests and needs of library patrons and the community. 
  • Keeps abreast of new librarianship issues and participate in professional activities and organizations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information at all times. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a library field or other public service experience requiring similar skills
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (both written and verbal) is preferred.
