Chair (W3) of Operating Systems
is to be filled starting from 01.10.2019. The successful applicant is required to represent the area of operating systems with high dedication in both research and teaching. The teaching responsibilities cover the fields of operating systems for all study tracks in the Faculty of Computer Science. Furthermore, participation in introductory courses and in courses for other faculties is expected. The candidate should agree with our philosophy to work interdisciplinary and to systematically foster new talents. The responsibilities also include contribution to the joint research project HAEC, as well as the cluster of excellence cfaed, and active development of corresponding projects in the future. The duties will include participation within the self-administration and in the academic committees of the Faculty and in the School of Engineering Sciences, as well as the supervision of master and PhD theses.
The faculty is seeking a candidate in the field of systems research, with a proven track record in one or several of the following fields:
- Design and implementation of scalable, adaptive operating systems, also for internet of things
- Operating system principles for real-time applications, resource management and energy-efficiency
- OS concepts for mobile, distributed, or massively parallel applications
- OS concepts for system and software security
- OS support for reliability, high availability, configurability, and compartmentalisation
- Methods for modeling and analysis of operating systems.
The candidate is required to have substantial experience in research and teaching and to have a proven record of first-class publications in one or several of the mentioned fields. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and project management and leadership are expected. The skills for conducting lectures in the English language are required. In addition to scientific research and both national and international collaboration, the candidate is expected to engage in close cooperations within the institute and with other chairs of the Faculty of Computer Science and related faculties, as well as with our extramural partners within the DRESDEN concept alliance. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act – SächsHSFG). A Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications are a prerequisite.
