CARB-X Support Team Lead
CARB-X has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our core team at Boston University in the role of CARB-X Support Team (CST) Lead. CARB-X is a new non-profit organization focused on accelerating the pre-clinical development of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics to address antibiotic resistance. Approximately $500M has already been committed to this work already and CARB-X has more than 20 innovative therapeutic and diagnostic projects in the rapidly growing portfolio. A unique aspect of the CARB-X model is the emphasis on supporting companies with more than just money. CARB-X brings a holistic approach to working with companies to help them succeed, tapping into a worldwide pool of experts in science, drug discovery and development, and operational effectiveness. The CST Lead will be responsible for managing the full range of support capabilities to biotech and pharma companies that CARB-X has invested in. Support from CARB-X includes world experts in antibacterial drug discovery and development from chemistry, microbiology, toxicology, regulatory, and more. Support also includes key elements for success from a business and operational perspective, e.g. making pitches to investors, building a compliance capability, etc. The CST lead will lead the process to identify and capture support needs, develop a support plan, and deliver the support in the field. In addition to manging the support provided to companies, the CST Lead will also actively monitor the progress of each project in terms of timelines, resources, and milestones. The monitoring, too, will be a collaborative effort with a team of scientific and business experts, working together assess progress in face-to-face meetings, written reports, etc. CARB-X is a fast-paced environment where creativity, flexibility, and collaboration are essential. This is a full-time position, grant funded for up to four years located on the Charles River Campus of Boston University.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience: Minimum of Bachelors degree in a field relevant to drug discovery or development; Masters preferred At least 5 years of experience managing projects, preferably with experience managing across multiple sites and/or multiple disciplines Experience with scientific Research and Development to combat infectious diseases, esp. drug discovery phases through initial clinical trials, will be a significant advantage; Familiarity with compliance aspects of drug discovery and development projects will be valuable, e.g. animal care and use compliance and/or human subjects research Proficient with project and portfolio management software, e.g. MS Project, SmartSheet, etc. Strong communication skills in written documents, graphical presentation of information, and oral communication; Some travel required mainly domestic but occasionally international
