BA (Hons) Design is a new course within the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at the Arts University Bournemouth. The ethos of the course will put design thinking and practical problemsolving at the heart of the programme, making strong links with the wider design community in the Faculty, just as design in industry links across creative subjects.
The course will recruit its first students in the academic year starting 2018. The role would include the development of curriculum, marketing and recruitment activities and building external industry and academic links in support of the course and Faculty. The role will include teaching responsibilities across existing design courses during the development and recruitment year, helping to build links across the creative community of the University.
The post holder will be flexible in their approach to practice and committed to student-centered teaching and learning. We are looking for a highly motivated and inspirational individual to join our creative community, bringing strong design thinking and practical design skills.
You will be working as part of a dedicated course team who have an open-minded approach to design, developing strong collaborative links to; Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design, Modelmaking and wider to Fashion and Graphic Design.
The BA (Hons) Design course recognises the opportunity for collaboration and shared learning for its students and the academic team would be encouraged to also contribute to other courses where appropriate.
The post holder will have experience within the design profession and be capable of the demands of teaching at degree level, with potential for post graduate teaching. You will need to be able to devise briefs, deliver inspiring workshops, present lectures and be actively involved in the assessment process, offering the opportunity to develop your teaching practice within a creative learning lead community.
Industrial Design, Product Design skills and Design Management skills are essential for this post. All academic staff are involved with research, often linked with industry and practice, which ensures the relevance and currency of our curriculum and our strong connection with our leading design profession networks.
A PhD is essential for this post. The successful candidate will also hold a post graduate qualification in a relevant subject and either hold, or be willing to undertake within 2 years, a teaching qualification or Higher Education Academy (HEA) Membership.
