About the opportunity

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position on the project “Affine flags, folded galleries and Euclidean reflection groups”, held by Dr Anne Thomas (University of Sydney), Dr Elizabeth Townsend Milicevic (Haverford College) and Assistant Professor Petra Schwer (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), which has recently been funded by the Australian Research Council.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out collaborative research on this project and we are looking for someone with background in either geometric group theory or algebraic combinatorics who is willing to learn something of the other area.    

The position will be research-only from 18 September - 31 December 2018, then have a teaching load of 26 lectures and 24 tutorials per semester from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2021.  

About you

We currently seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will demonstrate the following:

  • a PhD in a relevant area;
  • a background in either geometric group theory or algebraic combinatorics;
  • demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research under limited supervision either independently or as part of a research team;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills;

The position is full-time fixed-term for two years and nine months, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of appointment.
