Teaching Fellow in Business and the Environment

Salary: £35,850 - £44,220 p.a., pro-rata

Part time (17.5 hours per week), and Fixed Term for two years

The purpose of the post is to undertake teaching activities in order to support the work of the Centre for Environmental Policy. The post-holder will be responsible for teaching and learning activities on the Business and the Environment (B&E) Option of the MSc in Environmental Technology. This long-running course provides the highest standard of knowledge and skills development for environmental and sustainability specialists. Through the course students acquire a diverse range of discipline-specific problem-solving frameworks for tackling contemporary environmental and sustainability issues. A major emphasis of the course is on the way that environments function and on the compatible tools, alternative technologies and policies for sustainable management.
The B&E Option provides students with an understanding of opportunities and risks that businesses face in the light of growing environmental constraints and social inequality and gives them the skills to develop entrepreneurial solutions that maximise those opportunities. Students will be equipped with the knowledge to deal with the complex choices that business must face in order to function as responsible members of society.

Key responsibilities for the role of Teaching Fellow include: teaching and developing suitable material to MSc students on the B&E Option of the MSc Environmental Technology; organizing and running field trips; supervising, assessing and providing feedback on examinations, group work and research dissertations; helping coordinate the day to day running of the B&E Option. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a programme of training to develop expertise in education; undertake research to support teaching; and to undertake duties related to course administration, including organisation of teaching activities. The MSc will be undergoing curriculum review and redesign; it is expected the successful candidate will contribute to this activity.

You will have a Master’s degree (or equivalent), and interest in sustainable business, CSR or related topics.  You will also have recent experience of teaching in a Higher Education Institution, and have, or be working towards, a recognised teaching qualification. An interest in curriculum development or pedagogy is desirable.

The post is part-time for 17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) and is fixed term for two years.
