Lancaster University has a substantial and longstanding presence in China, which is strategically important to the University and also an area of our activities that we are going to further develop. We are therefore seeking to appoint a talented individual to lead our substantial engagements with China. The senior role is focused upon building on our existing partnerships and presence in China, including our Joint Institute with Beijing Jiaotong University (at the Weihai campus) and the Confucius Institute (CI) at Lancaster, in order to establish Lancaster as a major in-country partner for universities in China.

Through collaborative research and business engagement we will seek to produce outcomes that are of benefit to China. The CI is also a key part of this vision, building educational foundations, through the study and research of Chinese language and culture, which are crucial if the university and the UK are to better engage with China. The vision for our CI is to achieve model CI status.  Lancaster University Confucius Institute is already very successful and, in recognition of this success, the University has recently received substantial financial support from Hanban in Beijing to create a bespoke facility for the Confucius Institute, which will allow the University to expand its activities, as well as contributing to our China development agenda.
