Senior Research Assistant in Applied Qualitative Health Research

Working in the department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing at our Coach Lane Campus, and in collaboration with our Clinical and Academic partners (Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals and Newcastle University), the appointed person will support the Characterising Treatment Pathways and Decision Making in Sleep Disordered Breathing in Childhood project. This is an NHS funded project focused on understanding patient symptoms, effects, management and treatment of paediatric sleep disordered breathing. The appointed person will engage in research activities and support the project team in the timely completion and dissemination of this project.

The remit will be to assist in the organisation and day to day running of the project, liaise with partners, undertake data collection and analysis, and assist with report and academic paper writing. The appointed person’s main role will be in collecting and analysing qualitative data from parents of children aged 2-9 referred to the Great North Children’s Hospital with symptoms of paediatric sleep disordered breathing as well as Ear, Nose and Throat Consultants, Respiratory Paediatricians and local referring General Practitioners.

You will have a PhD in a relevant area, with experience of undertaking qualitative research in clinical settings and of collaborating with a range of health professionals, patients and academics at all levels. We wish to appoint an excellent researcher with well-developed analytical and communication skills who has the ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of our research group. Attention to detail in organising and planning work, preparing reports and in the presentation of study findings is an essential prerequisite.
