The Department of Medical Statistics has a long-standing research collaboration with the Dementia Research Centre (DRC) at the Institute of Neurology, UCL. The DRC is a world-leading centre for research in the dementias, whose work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, and how best to support people with dementia and their families.

The team of three or four statisticians based at LSHTM, led by Professor Chris Frost, provide statistical advice on all aspects of the design and conduct of a range of clinical studies in dementia, and also carry out the statistical analyses of many of these studies. These studies are broad in scope and include both cross-sectional and longitudinal approaches, observational and interventional studies, using a wide variety of techniques including imaging, fluid biomarkers, and neuropsychology.

The post-holder will play a central role in the research collaboration. Their work will involve liaising with the research team at the DRC so as to ensure that all research receives the necessary level of statistical research; co-ordinating the research efforts with the other statisticians; performing much of the analysis themselves and supervising the work of the other statisticians in the team where appropriate.

The post-holder will have a PhD in medical statistics or equivalent, a high level of expertise and understanding of statistical and epidemiological methods, an aptitude for innovative methodological and applied research in medical statistics, excellent leadership skills and a track record of effective participation as a statistician in collaborative medical research projects with non-statisticians. Further particulars are included in the attached job description.
