Aston Law School, a constituent part of Aston Business School, has a distinctive mission – the provision of commercially intelligent legal education and research – reflecting our position in a leading international business school and in a university focused on maximising the employability of its students. We currently offer two qualifying law degrees and also deliver law modules across a wide range of business and management programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
We seek an inspirational Chair to lead the School’s research activities, building on our successes in learning and teaching. The ideal candidate will be able to develop further the international research and enterprise profile of the School.
The Professor will be expected to provide academic and thought leadership – based on substantial prior experience in Higher Education - in their area of expertise and will be required to take a significant role in driving the continuing development of Law at Aston. They will contribute to developing and enhancing the Law and Business Schools’ research and external business/professional and policy engagement in law. They will contribute to developing and enhancing our engagement activities (with business, the professions and policy makers) and in shaping the impact of the Law School’s activities.
Applicants should have an outstanding record of research publication in their field of expertise. They should be able to demonstrate success (as appropriate to subject specialism) in attracting funding from research funding bodies or commercial sources, and in supervising and supporting PhD students and research teams. They should have a strong international profile and network and the ambition to develop that profile within a committed and commercially-focused Law School.
The post holder will be appointed to a permanent Chair of Law.
The appointee must hold a PhD in one of the relevant areas of law, or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience.
