We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Fellow to join a 5-year ERC-funded project on the phylogenetics and mathematical modelling of HIV infection. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to understand the impact of very early infection on the establishment of systemic HIV infection. As part of the project, the post holder will have privileged access to a rich source of new HIV next generation sequence data from Public Health England. They will develop phylogenetic and statistical methodology to evaluate the role of the infected partner in transmission.

The successful candidate will be based within the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at LSHTM working with Drs. Katie Atkins and Stéphane Hué, but will also work closely with scientists at Public Health England, UCL and ETH Zürich. The person appointed will prepare research findings for scientific publication.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent degree) in a relevant area (e.g. mathematical or statistical modelling, molecular evolution etc.), with expertise in phylogenetic/phylodynamic methodology. The post-holder will have experience dealing with large sequence datasets and proficiency in programming using specialist mathematical or statistical packages and/or of programming languages. In addition to excellent oral communication skills, they will show evidence of the ability to write clearly and produce high quality written reports. Familiarity with next generation sequence data and competency in mathematics or statistics would be an advantage. Further particulars are included in the attached job description.

The post, based in London, is full time and is available from 1st March 2018 until 28 February 2021, with the possibility of extension. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £38,553 - £40,380 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting).
