The Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. The School of Mathematical Sciences provides an intellectual environment, developing students with skills in high level mathematics. The school provided specific degrees in mathematical sciences and computer sciences with specialisations in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics.

This position is funded by the ARC Discovery Project “Multiscale modelling of systems with complex microscale detail”. The successful applicant will develop systematic mathematical and computational methods for the efficient and accurate macroscale modelling of systems with microscale irregular details. These microscale details cover a wide variety of physical phenomena, such as point defects in lattices, stochastic forcing, and shock propagation. This project is part of a long-term research strategy to produce a general and widely applicable computational macroscale scheme for complex microscale systems for use in high-performance computing simulations in engineering and science.

Salary: (Level A) $83,307 - $89,425 per annum

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% applies

Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of three years

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

  • A PhD in Applied Mathematics, or closely related field, by the date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated research experience in mathematical modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience in numerical modelling and numerical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
