Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Fluid Mechanics
Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Fluid Mechanics (Permanent)
UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering
UCD College of Engineering and Architecture
Applications are invited for the permanent post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Fluid Mechanics within the UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
The UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SMME) has a long and distinguished international track record of achievement and is committed to the highest standards of teaching, learning and student development within a research-informed environment. Fluid mechanics is centrally important to most of the taught Bachelors and Masters programmes offered by the School and to various elements of our three research priorities, Design & Manufacturing, Biomedical Engineering, and Materials. There are strong synergies for fluid mechanics research with UCD’s Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and UCD’s two main teaching hospitals, particularly in the area of cardiovascular biomechanics, and further synergies with Science Foundation Ireland’s National Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, I-Form, and UCD’s Energy Institute. Following recent sustained growth in our portfolio of taught programmes and the growth of internationally important research opportunities, the School now invites applications for a permanent tenured position of Assistant Professor in Fluid Mechanics.
Prospective candidates for this post are required to demonstrate their future potential to develop a world-class research programme in fluid mechanics with direct relevance to at least one of the School’s research priority areas. Candidates are also required to have an outstanding track record and an upward trajectory of internationally competitive research achievement in Mechanical Engineering, illustrating excellence in experimental and computational fluid mechanics.
On appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain an active and impactful personal research programme, to publish in leading international journals and conferences, and to seek out opportunities for research funding and collaboration, both nationally and internationally. Depending on the successful candidate’s interests, association with one of UCD’s Research Institutes or Academic Centers will be encouraged. The appointee will be required to undertake teaching duties, to include both lecturing and project supervision, across a range of programmes offered by the School. The appointee will be encouraged to take a leadership role in the teaching and development of fluid mechanics within the School, and to contribute appropriately to complementary subjects.
