The Department of Educational Studies seeks to appoint two Indigenous Australian early career academics as Associate Lecturers subsidiary to studentship. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the teaching, research and community engagement activities in the Department through a program of support and mentoring. These positions are aimed at supporting, developing and sustaining Indigenous excellence in teaching and research at the University.
The University is committed to working with Aboriginal Peoples to produce the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders. The University maintains its commitment to this through the University’s Indigenous Pathway Program and Indigenous Engagement Strategy 2015-2024 which promotes Indigenous inclusion, access and participation.
These positions require Indigenous authenticity for a number of factors in seeking to promote wider student and staff understanding of Indigenous Australia and the skills to work effectively in Indigenous contexts. The positions aim to:
- build cultural capacity and align to a cross-University Indigenous curriculum,
- enrich curriculum with Indigenous knowledge ensuring that students understand Indigenous culture, and
- place value on Indigenous knowledge and contributions.

Indigenous knowledge is an important and unique element of higher education. It contributes to economic productivity by equipping graduates with the capacity to work across Australian society and with Indigenous communities.

- Aboriginality and a demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander values, perspectives and knowledges. Being Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander is an essential requirement for these positions and is authorised under section 126 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
- Enrolled in a PhD in Education or Indigenous Studies and demonstrated capacity to complete such study within three years
- Previous qualifications and professional experience in the field of education
- Proven record of work in and with Indigenous communities which demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of knowledge of Indigenous people
- Evidence of potential to undertake lecturing and tutoring in Education
- Commitment to the delivery of high quality teaching, including the preparation of teaching and course material
Note: This position may require a Working with Children Check Clearance.
Salary Package: From $70,374 p.a. (Level A, Step 1), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
