POSTDOC POSITION in the field of BIOPHYSICS 

Description

A postdoc position is available in Robert Vacha’s lab (vacha.ceitec.cz) to participate in research focused on membrane-associated proteins with the objective of understanding their interactions, conformation and activation in the presence of membranes with various lipid compositions. The proteins in question are involved in deadly diseases and we hope to reveal their molecular mechanisms, which could be used in the design of new treatments. The research will be strongly coupled to collaboration with excellent experimental groups. Research will be conducted at CEITEC located in the life science campus of Masaryk University (Brno, Bohunice, http://www.ceitec.eu).  
  
The successful candidate should: 

  • be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years 
  • be a researcher who has worked at least two whole years in the last three outside the territory of the Czech Republic in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been PhD student (or equivalent) abroad 
  • have an excellent career record corresponding to given stage of career demonstrating creativity and scientific quality publishing record – in the last three years at least three publication outputs registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus or ERIH PLUS databases and at the same time publications such as “articles”, “books”, “book chapters”, “letters” and “reviews”. The applicant must be the principal author of at least one publication (according to the subject specificity it may be as the first author, the corresponding/reprint author, or the role of the individual authors stated in the article) 
  • have theoretical knowledge of Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods 
  • have work experience in computer simulations with all-atom or coarse-grained models 
  • have very good English – both spoken and written 

  
Desirable but not required: 

  • a motivated person with a collaborative mind set 
  • a willingness to engage in the life of the academic community 
  • previous experience with simulations of proteins and/or membranes 
  • experience with free energy calculations or enhanced sampling techniques
